English

Artist Indie184 was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico by way of the Dominican Republic, was raised up all over NYC. She has been active in the graffiti culture for over a decade. Determined to express herself to the world through art, she quit business college to teach herself how to sew, paint and produce graphic design. Influenced by all things colorful, happy and sexy. She is known for her classic New York simple yet playful feminine graffiti style infused with exuberant bold colors bursting with hearts, stars and bubbles. You can find her graffiti pieces in the streets from the South Bronx to Oslo. Indie’s graffiti was featured the recordbreaking Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto IV video game.

Indie has curated several group art exhibitions featuring several of the legendary contemporary street artists, such as Shepard Fairey, Kaws, Fafi, Swoon, Os Gemeos and Cope 2. She has participated in art exhibitions and auctions worldwide. Indie’s paintings are raptures of color and textures fused with of her graffiti, imagery, and designs juxtaposed with messages. Her current endeavors also include designing the latest collection for her streetwear brand Kweenz Destroy. Catch her creating her latest work in the streets or painting in her studio.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My creative process usually starts by pouring out conflicting ideas or emotions using words, images and color. When I create a painting, it’s like a page of my personal diary – all the pieces are worlds of personal declarations. Constant use of word play, found scraps of paper, stencil, graffiti, graphics and photographs mixed with vivid colors. Layering and textures of paint and paper resonates the spirit and soul of the work. I use iconic female imagery provoking mood and expression embellished with dripping paint juxtaposed with words. The use of color is significantly important reflecting the energy of the painting. The composed painting reflects power, motivation and with an undeniable twist of feminism in my paintings.
