Tom Wesselmann

Nach seinem Psychologiestudium beginnt Tom Wesselmann (1931 bis 2004) sich mit der Kunst zu beschäftigen. Und das sehr erfolgreich wie sich später herausstellen wird. Gegensätzlich zu den Popart-Künstlern seiner Zeit, wie Oldenburg oder Rauschenberg, konzentrieren sich seine Werke auf Lebenssituationen. Seine Serie Great American Nude drückt eine eindeutige Erotik aus und zeigt das Interesse des Künstlers an Formen des weiblichen Körpers. Anfangs malte Tom Wesselmann die Frauen noch vollständig mit Liebe zum Detail, nach und nach stilisierte er die Körper und ließ ausschlaggebende Partien wie die Brüste für sich stehen. So lässt der Popart Künstler, der zur ersten Generation gezählt wird, genug Raum für individuelle Interpretationen.
